Nor is it very inclusive, discriminating against big, bushy hair.Īnd it is certainly not about equality if all ethnic hairstyles are equal, but some are more equal than others. Permitting only certain hairstyles is not very diverse, either. It’s quite patronising and entirely unnecessary. It seems a lazy stereotype that they’re making in order to protect a demographic of people who don’t need protection.
Are they denying my British heritage and my British culture? But to the organisers of Abba Voyage – a show that encourages audiences to come in fancy dress, but which has also specifically banned Afro wigs – I’d like to ask: which culture do they believe my hair belongs to? I am British.
